Bio

Suzy Witzler served as an Iliff Trustee from 1992-2022. Suzy is the great-granddaughter of John Wesley Iliff, in whose name Iliff was founded in 1892. She continues a long, line of Iliff family members who have been Trustees of the School, having been named an Honorary Trustee in 2023.

Iliff responsibilities over the years: Business Affairs Committee (chair), Executive Committee, Investments Committee (chair), Presidential Search Committees, Trustee Affairs Committee, Buildings & Grounds Committee, Retirement Plan Committee (chair), various task forces, Board Vice Chair, and even a short stint as Board Chair.

Suzy’s professional career in the publishing industry began with elementary and high-school textbooks, but quickly turned to trade magazine publishing when she moved back to Denver in 1970. She then spent more than 30 years creating, editing, and managing trade magazines for a number of companies large and small. While her focus was on the plastics industry, she also oversaw magazines in materials, manufacturing, technology, and retail as well. The last five years of her career she was VP of a publishing company she helped to start. Her areas of expertise are industry involvement, budgeting, content, editing, circulation, production, conference management, and general management, and she has a special affinity for proofreading—indeed, it’s a compulsion.

Volunteer commitments since retirement have included The National Repertory Orchestra (board member, treasurer, secretary, development, event chair), Keystone Science School (development and other support), Lake Dillon Foundation for the Performing Arts (various), and an HOA board. She also administered The Dottie Roberts Scholarship Foundation for women interested in publishing for 12 years.

Suzy’s educational background includes a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and she was a Ford Foundation Fellow and M.A. graduate of the University of Chicago. Suzy lives in Highlands Ranch, CO.
