Bio
Sally Sommers is a board director, seasoned corporate counsel and advisor specializing in the most important corporate asset, People. In her twenty years as C-Suite corporate counsel for Fortune 500 financial leaders, The Western Union Company and First Data Corporation, and their foundations, she has been a trusted advisor to corporate boards of directors, CEOs, and executive management. In this capacity, she has advised on matters of global expansion and restructuring, risk management matters and M&A, as well as serving on the risk, ethics, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) committees.
In her role as Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President, she advised the Board of Directors, CEOs, and executive management at The Western Union Company and The Western Union Foundation on global HR risk matters. She was responsible for all global employment related matters for 13,000 employees in 59 countries. Before joining The Western Union Company, Sally was Associate General Counsel and advisor to the Board of Directors and executive management at First Data Corporation and the First Data Foundation, responsible for global employment, labor, compensation, and benefits matters for 32,000 employees in 57 countries.
Sally began her career at Chevron Corporation, in the Land Department, where she was responsible for oil and gas negotiations and land-related activities for Chevron’s domestic exploration and production. She later served as Counsel at Chevron’s coal subsidiary, providing a full range of general corporate and U.S. employment and labor advice.
Sally is currently a Global Employment Consultant. She is a Founding Board member and Program Committee Co-Chair of the Private Directors Association (PDA), Colorado Chapter. Sally holds a board of trustee position with the Iliff School of Theology and serves on the Trustee Affairs Committee and DEI Subcommittee.
Sally has a Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in English, from the University of Notre Dame. She is a member of the State Bars of Colorado and Missouri.
