Dr. Albert Hernandez
Teaching
Dr. Albert Hernandez earned the 2023-24 Faculty Award for teaching. A student said of his spring 2024 History of Christianity course, “Dr. Hernandez loves his subject area. It is evident in the way he teaches and presents material. There is a joy about him that left me more joyful (incidentally, joy isn’t my most evident quality.) His depth of knowledge stands out. His depth as a person comes through. I learned a lot, paradoxically I learned enough to be aware of how little I actually know.” This observation is typical of students in his courses. The award this year also acknowledges years of exemplary teaching prior to this academic year.
Dr. Katherine Turpin
Service
Dr. Katherine Turpin earned the 2023-24 Faculty Award for service. Although Dr. Turpin is Associate Dean of the Faculty, she continued to teach a full course load until spring 2024. Throughout the academic year she actively participated in every curriculum revision workshop and planning session and did substantial follow up work documenting and regularizing descriptions and decisions. Her attention to learning outcomes for the degrees and concentrations discussed by the faculty as a whole made it possible to come to a carefully thought and documented decision in record time. The award this year also acknowledges years of exemplary service to the faculty and the school prior to this academic year.
